Definition : Point-of-care hematology analyzers designed to determine the quantity of hemoglobin (the oxygen-carrying protein of erythrocytes) in whole blood; capillary, venous, or arterial blood can be used. These devices are typically portable units with a dual-wavelength photometer, a disposable cuvette for collecting and mixing blood with reagents, and a display. Point-of-care hemoglobin hematology analyzers provide results quickly without the need for laboratory technicians or sending samples to a clinical laboratory.
